RecycliCube: interactive video installation

For my diploma work I chose the topic of interactive video installation, which I realized in the project RecycliCube. It manifests the virtual space of digital data and the internet using a dark space. A beamer projects the image of a surveillance camera onto 3 clothes, that are mounted in increasing distance from the beamer on the ceiling. By filming its own projection a feedback loop is generated. Illuminated objects like spectators, who are in the space, are recorded and their data copied. The cothes are moved by air flow generated by the motion of the spectators themselves, representing how fragile and of a temporal character our image is in the digital world.

The following videos show recordings of my diploma exam, which took place within RecycliCube. The first one right below shows self-consistant pattern together with ambient sound from the gallery.

This part recorded the gathering prior to the exam and discussion. (only in German; and low audio quality from the surveillance camera).

Two sides of the story: garbage installation

Starting from the 2d surface map, I constructed a cube made of artboard, that can be unfolded. This is not that special. What is however special is the group of embedded magnets that hold the cube together without visible locks. And really special is the fact that the cube can be closed to both sides, that is bringing the garbade or the clean part to the outside. In this way it can be used for installation or as a seat.

Sculpture from metal found at construction sites: Drown or Solidarity

Resistance and moral courage both need the will to shape our social environment, the public, as well as cultural spaces. One hand is stretched out to the spectator to demand interaction and moral courage. The choice of trash from construction sites was relates to being “discarded“. In that way the sculpture talks about flight and refugees, that depend crucially on courage and the motivation of individuals.

Upcycling to porcelaine

Working in 3D I see myself as a kind of architect, shaping objects and spaces that surrounds me and asking why I like it this way. This is what I also do when I am planning exhibitions.

Technical objects always have an industrial, functional appearance and despite they show the design of their times. I always loved electronic gear when I was young because it promised to me the possibility to go beyond my natural limits. And this is what art is all about. So I started this project where I play with changing the design of such devices, making them more „aesthetic“ in terms of material but stripping all their functionality.

Video installations

Here I show some of my video installations, which bring film into 3D space. You get an idea of „6 variations of church“ both at Markuskirche 2018 and Kunstschule 2017 as well as a projection of „Slip of control“ at Kunstschule 2017.

New aspects in portrait and projection: mapping (virtual) spaces

In this ongoing project I research on how we perceive 3D real or virtual space. In contrast to the common practique of making one image of a room or landscape we our eyes actually select a couple of angles of view to build up the story of this space. That process I want to show here.
